Details Of The Text: 5th Cent.; born in a village near Buddhagaya; mastered the Vedas and other branches of knowledge; was defeated by Revata, a Buddhist monk; while dwelling with Revata, he is said to have written Nāṇodaya (in Pāli) (See Cullavagga xxxvii. 225) and the Atthasālinī and began to write Parittaṭṭhakathā, a concise C. on the Tripiṭakas. He is said to have visited Ceylon, studied Sinihalese commentaries on the Tripiṭakas at the Mahāvihāra under  Saṅghapāla. Some do not subscribe to this view.
